I am currently in the first year of a PhD under the supervision of Dr Sophie Scott and funded by the ESRC. I am interested in perceptual adaptation to distorted speech and am currently using behavioural paradigms to investigate the importance of phonological factors in adaptation to noise-vocoded speech.

How children learn to speak, without doing so by imitation. Two alternative mechanisms replace imitation: a physiological/aerodynamic one for supposedly temporal phenomena, and a sound-gesture equivalence mapping for the development of the qualities of speech sounds.
